Nursery Director--Immediate Opening
NURSERY RESPONSIBILITIES – NURSERY DIRECTOR
The Director of Nursery is the point person responsible for the nursery at Edgewood Community Church. It will be this person’s responsibility to ensure that the nurseries at Edgewood provide safe, quality care for children birth to three years old. It is expected that this person develop a team of people to help with the tasks necessary to run an excellent nursery program.
There are six main areas in the Director of Nursery’s responsibilities:
Scheduling nursery volunteers. This involves filling the 4 month schedule, updating the volunteer list and communicating with volunteers. Written instructions are to be included with schedules when they are mailed out. This may also involve scheduling volunteers for special church events outside of the schedule at times.
Reminding volunteers of their service. This involves calling volunteers to remind them of their service towards the end of each week. It also involves handling any last minute illnesses by teachers (although they have been directed to find their own subs.)
Keeping the nursery clean, organized, and well-stocked. This involves weekly checks of the nurseries, making sure they are clean, organized, safe, and supplied. It will be necessary to monitor & solve safety issues, check & maintain snack supplies, hygiene products (disinfectant sprays, wipes, extra diapers, etc.), and equipment (pagers, furniture, toys, etc.).
Cleaning/Sanitizing nursery toys regularly. A system must be followed whereby toys are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
Recruiting new nursery volunteers as needed. This involves personal contacts as well as planning volunteer recruiting campaigns, which may involve bulletin and creative church announcements, manning sign-up tables, participating in or planning ministry fairs, following up with recruits, etc.
Supervising weekend nursery volunteers. This involves checking each service to see that volunteers show up, monitoring child/volunteer ratios, opening additional nurseries or combining them if needed. It also involves handling required paperwork such as volunteer applications, background/reference checks, etc. “Hands-on” training of volunteers will be necessary at times as well. Choosing and implementing any curriculums that may be used in the nursery would also be part of the supervision responsibility.
** Team members can, and should, help with the above tasks, but the Director of Nursery is responsible for seeing that they are being done. She is the point person for this ministry.
Pastor Mike is the staff supervisor in regards to nursery. He will check in with the director in regards to how things are going, help problem solve issues, and be a resource to her in regards to policy and decision making. He does not intend to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the nursery ministry nor does he intend to be the contact for issues regarding nursery. These issues will be the responsibility of the Nursery Director.
